Not sure where to start?

If you're ready to make a difference in the lives of others and build a career rooted in purpose, becoming a recovery coach through CCAR is a powerful first step.
Recommended Steps

Step 1: Complete the Core Training

This foundational, interactive course introduces the principles of recovery coaching, motivational interviewing, active listening, and how to support individuals in recovery without judgment or clinical diagnosis.
Ethical Considerations for Recovery Coaches (16 hours)
This training focuses on ethical decision-making, maintaining healthy boundaries, and acting with integrity in peer support roles.
Step 2: Expand Your Skills with Optional Trainings
CCAR offers specialized courses to deepen your knowledge and grow your toolkit as a coach. These include:
-

-

-

(These electives may also count toward your 60 required hours for certification.)
Step 4: Gain Practical Experience
Training is essential—but lived application is what builds confidence. Look for volunteer opportunities, internships, or entry-level peer roles to practice your skills in real-world settings.
Step 5: Build Your Network
